Inventory
There is currently limited knowledge about the availability of ash and other urban wood resources in the quarantine area. Additional information on the quality and quantity of the region's affected trees is needed to determine the best economic options for processing this material. In response to this need, the Southeast Michigan Resource Conservation and Development Council has selected Dr. Sam Sherrill, author of "Harvesting Urban Timber: A Complete Guide," to develop an inventory and survey program that will characterize the volume, quality, and estimated value of southeastern Michigan's street, yard, and woodlot trees. Additionally, this study will also examine the sources, quality, and disposal methods for a variety of other types of urban wood waste.
A message from Dr. Sherrill to Wood Survey Participants
Data from this study should be available in early 2006 and will be made available to the local wood industry and other interested parties. The information will allow long-term, sustainable business plans to be developed for utilizing wood waste and will encourage development of new markets. Inventory Archive
